BioTall and lanky, with short-cropped hair and a northern accent, this is not the Doctor as you've seen him before.
The Doctor has lived a life very few could imagine. For 900 years (canon is sketchy on the precise time) he has ventured forth, through the universe. He has traveled through space and time, from one end of the universe and back. He has witnessed the birth and the death of both, sometimes preventing, sometimes assisting. He has been the midwife in the birth of civilizations, and the executioner of them as well. He has had a myriad of companions in his travels, all meaning something to him, no matter how short a time they were with him.
The fulcrum for Nine was the Time War. Faced with a war between his own people and the Daleks that would tear apart time and the very fabric of the universe, he made the only choice that he could. He chose to destroy both races in order for the universe to survive. It left him alone, and changed, the last Time Lord (so he thought) and the Daleks gone. There was still evil to fight -- there would always be -- but it left him changed, a different man than before.
We don't know how long it was before he found Rose, but he did. He found Rose and rescued her -- or perhaps in a way she rescued him as will. Young and intense, Rose reminded him of everything he loved and admired about humans. Their intensity and will and ability to survive. Her curiosity and in fact, stubbornness. He decides to show her some things, taking her to the end of the world, as well as Victorian Britain -- where she gets kidnapped. They worked together to defeat the Slitheen. And it's only when carried to the near future, when the Dcotor encounters something that should not exist that things truly go awry.
